M2 Overview & Curriculum

M2 Language Arts consists of reading, writing, research, vocabulary, and grammar. We study literature that includes short stories, drama, poetry, nonfiction, and novels. The novels we read all follow the theme of personal growth and transformation. We will read Touching Spirit Bear, Paperboy, and The Miracle Worker. Students will also be required to complete one novel of their choice during the second semester and give an oral presentation (Book Talk) to the class. Throughout the school year, students will improve their skills in reading, writing, collaborative learning, research, and technology.

In M2 Writer’s Workshop students will complete assorted creative and expository writings, respond to prompts, and organize a portfolio of work in Google Docs. Through this course, students will learn how to research a topic, develop questions and conduct an interview with key people, organize ideas, format stories for print news media, and edit their stories for publication of a periodic school newspaper. Students will also study different works of poetry and use the knowledge gained to express themselves through their own poems.
