Mission and History

The mission of Sandhills School is to provide a successful learning environment for students who learn differently and who benefit from evidence-based, multi-sensory instruction. Sandhills School will develop the potential of each student by fostering intellectual curiosity, principled character and a commitment to serve.

Sandhills Academy was founded in 1970 by a group of concerned parents whose children were struggling in traditional classrooms. Sandhills started as the Columbia Reading Foundation and transitioned into Sandhills Academy after becoming a 501(c)(3) in 1977 and started serving students the Midlands area.

The original Sandhills Academy was located off South Beltline, where it experienced flooding. In 1992, Sandhills Academy moved to our current location on Hallbrook Drive set on 22 beautiful, partially wooded acres of land. In 2003, the Board of Trustees voted to change the name of Sandhills Academy to Sandhills School. Sandhills School has become an integral part of the Midlands community. Our facility, sculptures, and state-of-the-art technology are a testimony to the generous support of our community.

Providing a community where gifts can flourish.
