Journey to Sandhills

Liz first joined Sandhills as a substitute teacher in early 2023 after graduating from CIU. Over several months, she quickly connected with the campus, the students, and the mission. By the end of the spring, she knew she wanted to stay.

What Drew Me to Sandhills

While researching dyslexia after her cousin’s diagnosis, Liz came across Sandhills by chance. After taking a tour, she was struck by the school’s clear commitment to individualized instruction.

“I saw how all emphasis was truly put on each individual student—not just the group or class as a whole. That is what a school should do.”

Why I Love Working with Students with Dyslexia

Liz is continually impressed by her students’ curiosity and creativity.

They’re so much smarter than the world gives them credit for.”

She loves seeing students light up when they connect with a topic they care about and values their unique strengths and interests.

Favorite School Tradition

Her favorite tradition so far is the Middle School Christmas Party, which brought the entire middle school together and helped merge groups of students who might not normally hang out.
