My Journey to Sandhills
“So many people during the moving process sung the praises of Sandhills and encouraged me to seek out employment.”
Julia is a third-generation graduate of App State—and a third-generation teacher. Inspired by her grandmother and mother, who both taught for decades in public elementary schools, Julia began her career in public education in North Carolina before moving into independent schools. She taught middle and high school history at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh and Vermont Academy, eventually specializing in academic support at Christ School in Asheville. When her family relocated to Columbia, she knew she wanted to continue working with students with learning differences and found the perfect opportunity at Sandhills.
Experience with Students with Learning Differences
Julia has spent nearly a decade working directly with students who learn differently. Her background in academic support and differentiated instruction allows her to tailor her teaching to meet students where they are—and help them grow from there.
Life Outside of School
Julia enjoys family outings to the Riverbanks Zoo and exploring Columbia’s food scene. Some of her favorite local spots include Dano’s Pizza and Mr. Friendly’s.
