Why I Love Sandhills

“I love that we provide a one-of-a-kind environment where dyslexic students can get the intervention they need and not miss out on all of the fun stuff.”

As both the Director of Marketing and Director of Athletics & Activities, Dana gets a front-row seat to what makes Sandhills so special. Whether it’s a breakthrough in the classroom or a big moment on the field, she sees how students are supported in every part of their experience. “Students and families come to Sandhills so frustrated, and I love to watch everything turn around—not just for the kiddo, but for the whole family. It’s a transformative place—like nowhere else I’ve worked before.” For Dana, sharing those stories is the most rewarding part of her job.

Favorite School Tradition

• Founders Day: Dana’s favorite tradition is Founders Day, a celebration that brings the entire Sandhills community together to honor the school’s legacy. “I love celebrating where Sandhills started and where we’re going. It’s all of our story.” For Dana, it’s more than just a fun event—it’s a reminder of the school’s purpose, progress, and the people who make it special. The energy and school spirit on Founders Day and the pride shared by students, teachers, and families makes it one of the most meaningful moments of the year.

Life Outside of School

Outside of work, Dana enjoys kayaking and tubing with her family on the Saluda River. A self-described foodie, she loves exploring Columbia’s locally owned restaurants.

Fun Facts

• Dana was a member of the Woodsmen’s Team in college, where her specialty was the axe throw.

• Her purple wardrobe is legendary—she has everything from dresses and socks to jackets and jewelry in Sandhills’ signature color!
