OUR SCHOOL

Sandhills school is a vibrant, non-profit, co-educational day school for bright children in the first through twelfth grades with diagnosed learning differences, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. We give students the tools needed to succeed and become leaders among their peers and in the community.

Highly specialized teachers at Sandhills School focus on the strengths of each student and help to navigate traditional obstacles to learning. We provide a supportive, college preparatory environment where the first through twelfth graders rediscover the joy of learning and renew their intellectual curiosity.

Through academic success in small, hands-on classes, leadership opportunities on the sports field and the stage, traveling internationally and serving the community, our students gain confidence in their abilities, and fears and anxieties begin to fade. Sandhills’ parents notice a positive difference in their child almost immediately.

Sandhills School has changed the lives of young people diagnosed with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia or ADHD for nearly 50 years. Sandhills uses the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach, a brain-based, research-proven  program for intelligent students struggling to acquire reading and writing skills, to help them achieve their full potential. In addition to being the only Orton-Gillingham accredited college preparatory school in the Midlands, Sandhills is also one of only eighteen AOGPE accredited teacher training centers in the nation. The school also serves as an educational resource for the community on language-based learning differences.

Sandhills develops the potential of each student by fostering intellectual curiosity, principled character and a commitment to serve.

Sandhills School is nationally recognized as one of eighteen model schools in the nation that are accredited by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE) for using the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching students who learn differently.

In addition to the regular day school program, we offer summer skills programs and tutoring to outside students. Sandhills is the recognized expert in teaching students with learning differences and inspiring them to enjoy learning. We have a long and successful history of helping talented students overcome difficulties with reading, writing, and math.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

“The changes have been unbelievable! You can ask her peers, grandparents, other family members, and even her teachers at church and school. She almost magically came out of her shell.

After her grandparents visited, they commented on how she was blossoming and the visible changes in her countenance. I have my smart, sassy, loving little girl back.”

Parent

I had the privilege of sending my own son to Sandhills when he was in middle school. His life was forever changed!

There are no words to express what it is like to watch your child go from feeling like a failure to finding a new confidence. I have experienced the “Sandhills blessing.” Now a teacher at Sandhills, I enjoy both perspectives.”
