Academics

Sandhills School offers a rich and comprehensive education. Our curriculum is based on the Orton-Gillingham principles. We actively incorporate the auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic modalities in all learning. We use a multisensory approach to teach all subject areas; or curriculum is based on learning by doing. Sandhills capitalizes on the students’ strengths while we remove the traditional obstacles of learning. We take the stress out of homework and recognize that children need time to develop and grow as a well-rounded individual.

For more than forty years, Sandhills School has changed the lives of young people diagnosed with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia or ADHD. As the only Orton-Gillingham accredited college preparatory school in the Midlands,

Our students close the gap between their achievement and their potential.

Sandhills teachers are highly trained to provide research-based individualized instruction tailored to each student’s academic needs.

This approach produces tremendous progress in everything from reading, writing, and math to study skills, organization, and college entrance test preparation.

Sandhills graduates go on to colleges of their choice, are recognized by state and national scholarships, and are equipped with the tools they need to succeed in college and beyond. They leave Sandhills equipped with the best preparation for the next stage in their academic career. Our academic program prepares our students to succeed in college and beyond, with a lifelong love for learning.
