Welcome to Sandhills School. I invite you to take a tour of our web site and give us a call. Sandhills has been home to me for eight years, and I am committed to students who learn differently. In many aspects our students are way ahead of their peers because they think differently. Most of our students are talented in the higher cognition skills such as problem solving, analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating. We capitalize on these skills in order to help our students recognize their potential.
Our meaningful and purposeful curriculum was developed to optimize student success. Our students enjoy learning and critiquing. Our goal is to prepare them for college or their future academic careers.
Each one of our students has something valuable to contribute; therefore we replace fear with hope and we teach our students to believe in themselves. Our culture is one of respect and support. Our small class size helps create a family atmosphere.We provide a safe place to take risks and encourage our students to learn by taking those risks. Our students compete in state and national competitions. Many of our students have been recognized on the state level for their art work, creative writing and science projects.
Curricular enhancements include field trips, guest speakers, artist-in-residence programs and extended overnight field trips. We value social, emotional and cognitive growth.
Parents have told me that Sandhills School is a magical place, and I would agree with that. The acquisition of reading at times seems miraculous. The magic is a combination of the joy of learning, the dedication of our fine teachers and the hard work of our students to build a foundation of knowledge. We are very proud of our students’ accomplishments and academic success.
