Mission Statement:
The mission of Sandhills School is to provide a successful learning environment for students who learn differently and who benefit from evidence-based, multi sensory instruction. Sandhills School is a resource to the community for information about language-based learning differences and ADD/ADHD.
Sandhills School is a vibrant, independent school for bright students in the first through eleventh grades. Sandhills School has been in operation for over thirty years, providing an established, proven program through quality and stability. Intelligent students seek Sandhills to overcome their difficulties with reading, writing and math. When coming to us, our students’ achievement level is not reaching their full potential. Sandhills uses the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is a brain-based, research proven instructional program for intelligent youngsters struggling to acquire reading and writing skills.
Sandhills Academy was founded in 1970 by concerned parents whose children were struggling in traditional classrooms. Sandhills started as the Columbia Reading Foundation. Sandhills Academy became a 501(c)(3) in 1977 and started serving students the Midlands area as a school. The original Sandhills Academy was located off South Beltline, where it experienced flooding. In 1992, Sandhills Academy moved to 22 acres located on Hallbrook Drive.
In 2003, the Board of Trustees voted to change the name of Sandhills Academy to Sandhills School. Sandhills School is an integral part of the Midlands community. Our facility, sculpture and state-of-the-art technology are a testimony to the generous support of our community.
Sandhills School is a place where learning is celebrated, and failure is replaced by success.
